Meet the Maker

Meet the Maker

On September 23, Green Lake Jewelry Works welcomed guests in our Seattle Studio for a special Meet the Maker evening celebrating the beauty, craftsmanship, and artistry behind Montana sapphires. From the hunt for rough gemstones to the precision of lapidary cutting and the creativity of custom jewelry design, guests experienced the remarkable journey that transforms a natural crystal into a wearable work of art.

Discovering the Art of Montana Sapphires

The evening offered an inside look at every stage of the sapphire-making process. Our in-house lapidary artist, Nadine Marshall, captivated guests with a lively, insightful presentation on the art of cutting sapphires. With her signature wit and passion, Nadine explained how rough crystals are carefully evaluated and transformed into faceted gemstones, revealing the color, brilliance, and character hidden within each stone.

Behind-the-scenes videos of Nadine cutting gemstones played throughout the evening, giving guests an up-close look at the skill, patience, and precision involved in lapidary work. Brant also shared stories about Montana's sapphire mines, adding another layer to the journey from the earth to the jeweler's bench.

Guests came ready with questions and curiosity, making the presentation an engaging exploration of the origins of these extraordinary gemstones.

From Gemstone to Custom Design

The creativity continued with live sketching demonstrations from our talented jewelry designers. Designers Sami, Devon, Tessa, and Rebecca shared their design processes and inspirations, showing guests how a featured Montana sapphire can become the starting point for a one-of-a-kind custom piece.

Styled inspiration cases and an assortment of beautiful sapphires invited guests to explore the many possibilities of custom jewelry. Seeing the gemstones alongside the designers' ideas helped bring the creative process to life, highlighting the personal touches and thoughtful craftsmanship that make each custom design unique.

At Green Lake Jewelry Works, we believe that exceptional jewelry begins with a story. Whether inspired by a gemstone's natural color, an artist's vision, or a customer's personal meaning, every design is an opportunity to create something truly individual.

A Night Made Possible by Our Team

The success of the evening was a true team effort. A special thank-you to Nadine for sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm, Brant for bringing the story of Montana's sapphire mines to life, and Elaine and Phae for organizing the beautiful selection of gemstones.

Thank you to Christine for the delicious treats—with cream puffs proving to be a favorite among guests and team members alike—and to Lexi and Nayoung for keeping everything fresh and plentiful. We also extend our appreciation to everyone who staffed the gem stations, welcomed guests, and worked behind the scenes to make the evening run smoothly. Sam captured moments throughout the event and is helping us share the experience through Instagram.

We were thrilled by the turnout and delighted to see so many guests engaged from beginning to end. Their questions, conversations, and excitement reminded us how special it is to share not just the finished jewelry, but also the people, skills, and stories behind it.

Experience the Artistry for Yourself

Our Montana Sapphire Meet the Maker evening was a wonderful reminder that jewelry is about more than beautiful gemstones. It's about the journey, the artistry, and the hands that bring each piece to life.

At Green Lake Jewelry Works, we're proud to bring together talented artists and skilled craftspeople to help you discover the possibilities of fine jewelry. Whether you're drawn to the natural beauty of Montana sapphires or imagining a custom design of your own, we'd love to help you explore what's possible.
