Meet the Artist: Toby Pomeroy  — Jewelry in Balance with the Earth

We’re excited to welcome Toby Pomeroy to Green Lake Gallery!

Toby’s story begins in India, where he grew up immersed in a culture that values balance—between people and planet, craft and spirit, beauty and responsibility. Witnessing the patience and devotion of traditional craftspeople, and surrounded by the natural beauty of the landscape, he developed a lifelong reverence for working with his hands and living in harmony with the environment. That early influence continues to shape every facet of Toby Pomeroy today.

A pioneer in sustainable sourcing, Toby Pomeroy serves as the North American board member for the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM), founded in 2004 in Colombia. ARM shares a powerful vision: that artisanal and small-scale mining can become a formalized, organized, and profitable activity—one that uses efficient technologies and supports socially and environmentally responsible supply chains.

Toby Pomeroy is proud to be among the first jewelry design studios in the United States to offer Fairmined gold, marking a significant step toward transparency, authenticity, and accountability in fine jewelry.

Over the past decade, Toby has also worked to purchase directly from small-scale miners, placing special emphasis on operations that eliminate the use of toxic mercury. His commitment to this cause led to the founding of Mercury Free Mining, a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating mercury use in gold mining worldwide—protecting ecosystems and the health of vulnerable communities.

The jewelry industry has historically been linked to environmental destruction and, in some regions, serious human rights abuses. Toby Pomeroy has devoted his career to helping reverse that legacy—working toward a future where jewelry, from mine to market, benefits the environment and every person it touches.

Today, the Toby Pomeroy studio is a small team of talented artisans fascinated with texture and form, inspired by the simplicity of nature. Using reclaimed metals and Fairmined TRUE GOLD™, they forge graceful, organic designs that reflect balance and restraint.

Though technologies have evolved over the decades, the studio continues to pursue the purity of ancient craft. Their process mirrors their philosophy: live, learn, and create in harmony. The result is jewelry that is timeless, refined, and quietly powerful.

At Toby Pomeroy, exquisite beauty and masterful craftsmanship are essential—but so is stewardship. Precious metals are gifts from the earth. Honoring their origin is part of honoring the finished piece itself.

The journey toward fully ethical sourcing is ongoing, and the work is far from over. But through vision, persistence, and collaboration, Toby Pomeroy has helped redefine what responsible luxury can look like.

What makes Toby Pomeroy’s jewelry truly unique is the seamless union of refined, nature-inspired design with uncompromising environmental and social responsibility. Long before sustainability became a trend, Toby pioneered the use of certified recycled precious metals and later championed Fairmined gold—ensuring transparency, traceability, and meaningful support for small-scale mining communities. Each piece is forged by hand in his studio using reclaimed or responsibly sourced metals, reflecting both ancient craft traditions and modern ethical standards.

The result is jewelry that feels timeless and organic in form, yet groundbreaking in purpose—luxury that honors the earth as beautifully as it adorns the wearer.

Why We Love Toby Pomeroy Jewelry:
