Meet the Artist: Petra Class Studio  — Where Tradition Meets Modern Design

We’re excited to welcome Petra Class Studio to Green Lake Gallery! German-born artist Petra Class brings together old-world craftsmanship and California’s organic spirit to create jewelry that feels both timeless and strikingly contemporary. Each piece reflects a deep respect for material and form — sculptural, refined, and alive with texture and color.

Born and educated in Germany, Petra began her creative journey studying art history and philosophy at the University of Stuttgart before turning her hands to traditional metalsmithing. Her early work in handcrafted tableware laid the foundation for her meticulous attention to detail. Immersed in Berlin’s vibrant art scene, she developed an instinct for design that felt both intellectual and deeply personal.

In 1991, Petra moved to San Francisco, where she established her studio — a creative space that now includes her son Lucas and daughter-in-law Phoebe. Together, they lead a small team of skilled metalsmiths, crafting sculptural jewelry that bridges continents and generations. The results are pieces that carry the precision of classical European training and the free-form elegance of California’s landscape.

Whether it’s a one-of-a-kind pendant featuring a rare gemstone or an evolving collection of gold forms that catch the light just so, Petra’s work captures a balance of tradition and innovation. Every design feels intentional yet organic — jewelry that tells a story of family, heritage, and artistic evolution.

Why We Love Petra Class Jewelry:

We love Petra Class jewelry for its sculptural beauty and refined craftsmanship. Each piece reflects her German silversmithing roots, reimagined through California’s organic, nature-inspired spirit. Working alongside her family, Petra creates designs that feel both timeless and contemporary. Her jewelry is more than adornment — it’s art you can wear.
